  • Shops Recap of Lucky

111505_luckyjaimeTips to remember for next year: eat a good lunch, get mentally prepared for the lines and wear comfy shoes.

Jaren and Marcie snagged some Bliss products and I picked up two long sleeved t shirts from Mblem, by Mandy Moore.

Jaime picked up a fine bag from Lauren Merkin with a great discount.

The wasn’t the end of the lines. Once inside we had to wait in line to view the “goods” then wait in line to pay and then wait in line to pick up what we had purchased. Desipte that we did end up with some great finds, and it was a fun way to spend the day. I’m already

A few weeks ago a couple of my girlfriends and I paid a first time visit to the Lucky Shops event in NYC. We arrived bright and early but still ended up way in the back of the line.

120205_belt1And what I wanted to buy, but didn’t because I kept walking out of them:
Suede Leather Cross Wedge Shoes. And what is still on my mind: Angel Wing Earings (and necklace)

Other recent Urban purchases (not bags):
-Lux Fancy Velvet Trim Blazer. Velvet is everywhere this season, but I didn’t think I was ready for a full on velvet blaser. I’ve lovehaving velvet details, but it isn’t overwhelming.
-3 Inch Hammered Hoops in silver. The best to liven up a dull outfit.
-Lux Horse Print Scoop Neck Tee. What is better then a horse shirt?

Recently I picked up this cute belt bag from the sale pile. I wanted something that would carry my small camera, some care and some lip gloss yet leave my hands free. I haven’t actually had any place to wear the belt bag yet, but my mom wore it to a sushi party and said it was great.

I know I aged out of their demographic, oh say 5 years ago but I just can’t stop shopping at Urban Oufitters. I’d never wear head to toe Urban, but I love to throw in some funky pieces with a regular outfit. You can often find me in the Harvard Square Urban during my lunch break searching for a bargain.

Don’t miss the Sierra Large Carryall noted over at Brown Seven Twelve.
Wishbone necklace see on the SheFinds Blog
Also from the SheFinds Blog some great solutions including a hanging handbag organizer for your closet.

The She Finds Ugg Buying Guide. I got into the Ugg trend late so it is still rather new to me. I have a pair of Brooks Tall in black and I love them. I know a lot of people hate the Ugg boot style but for those of us living in the northeast a pair of Uggs is an essential. I also have my eye on Sunset and Nantucket.

  • Quest for a new pair of jeans Not bag related

Posted on April 1st, 2010 hbvip No comments

020406_jeansSo the quest continues today, I am going to hit Filene’s Basement and see how that goes. If that doesn’t work out I’ll also hit The Tannery and Jasmine Sola sometime next week. Hopefully I can find a new pair soon so I can return to bags!

Earlier this week two pairs of jeans from Target .com arrived. Sadly they were not right one bit and will be returned to the store today. I didn’t like how the washes looked and they felt very flimsy. Plus, as I have leaned mass marketed jeans from places like Target, Gap etc. don’t fit my waist and behind at all. There is always a huge gap when I sit down so I flash my underwear to the world, and when standing they bunch up around my hips. Not to mention that regular jeans are never long enough for me. Its worth it to spend a little more for a pair that fit me perfectly.

I’m the kind of person that always feels a little uncomfortable around salespeople (do they really think that looks nice? Or do they just want to make a comission) but I felt right at home at in jean ius. I was very tempted by a cool pair from Loomstate but they weren’t exactly right. I wasn’t able to find the perfect pair, but I plan a return trip in the spring when they will be getting in some AG tapered, drainpipe jeans which I have been dying to try since they started popping up everywhere I looked. Now I know I said about a year ago I would never ever go back to tapered jeans, and I would always wear flared, but I have officially changed my mind.

Lately I haven’t had so much time to think about bags because I’ve been focused on my second obsession: a new pair of jeans. Last night I paid a visit to in jean ius in Boston’s North End and thoroughly enjoyed trying on all the lovely jeans the sales lady suggested for me. She was just the right kind of helpful, answered all my questions but not at all pushy.

  • Navy Bags Old

021206_oldnavyAnd if your on the lookout for a small hand held bag you can’t go wrong with a Ring-Handled bag. I like the green canvas pictured above.

The jury is still out for me for the Crescent bags. I liked the pictures online, but when I saw it in person I thought the handles looked very cheap and the whole bag was so big it looked sloppy. But the pop of the colorful canvas print is nice especially with all the winter blacks that we have been wearing around the northeast recently.

I also like the Woman’s Floral Tote with the lovely green flowers. The straps looks like they might be too short to fit over my bulky jacket, but I could probably overlook that.

A couple weeks ago I picked up a Studded Canvas Tote in white to use as my daily commuting bag. I liked the studs and the very nautical rope handles. Turns out the bag was too big to use everyday, but turned into a handy weekend bag. The new Lucky magazine has a smaller version of this bag, but so far I haven’t seen it online or in the store.

Old Navy has gotten in a crop of new bags and I’m quite happy with what I see. I like the emphasis on colorful and durable canvas prints which I think works out much better with inexpensive bags then using cheapo faux leather.

050906_cole1I like the nifty little details like the studded hardware, square rivets and steel blue lining. My second favorite color is the terracotta, but the white really stands out.

I still can’t get white bags off my mind especially now that the weather is heating up. This large drawstring bag from Cole Haan is beautiful to look at.

  • Girl tote Sweater

    100606_sweaterMore from Anthropologie:
**Although its not shown on the web site I’ve seen the Wise Old Tote and the Big Love Tote on the Sale racks.
**Not bag related, I picked up the Spray Can Skirt recently which should keep me warm (and colorful) all winter long.

With winter on its way the Sweater Girl Tote by Rafe has caught my eyes a few times at Anthropologie. I like the tassels and the metal hardware against the contrast of the grey knit and black leather

DIY: Chanel Black satin nail polish. I’m really liking the idea of black nail polish for the winter. I think I might be requesting Licorice next time I get my nails done instead of my usual Lady Godiva.

    What is the Flawless Face?
People can’t stop talking about the Proenza Schouler collection at Target. I’m afraid I’ll miss out on this since its hard to get to a Target in NYC, but online the collection looks like the best GO collection yet. Of course the problem is that this stuff always looks great online, but not in person so we’ll see. I like the Wild Dove Clutch, Wild Dove Blazer, Palm Print Sweater and the Faded Rose Top.

  • Wide leg jeans Hooray for

Posted on March 31st, 2010 hbvip No comments

062907_jeansToday my plan is to do all the things I WOULD have done had I landed in San Fran last night. I started with a relaxing breakfast at the local diner while reading the newspaper. I’m now going to head out for a mani/pedi and some shopping. My attire will be my Ginger jeans and some cork wedges. We will see how that shoe/jeans combination works out.

If I ever do make it out to San Fran expect a shopping review of Jeremy’s!

The only tricky part about the wide legs is that finding just the right pair of shoes can be tricky. I’ve had some luck with my Frye chunky sandals but when I want to wear a more relaxed outfit with flat shoes the jean are to long and I just can’t let them drag on the ground. So as much as I love my Ginger jeans I haven’t gotten too much use out of them.

WhoWhatWear Daily, one of my favorite reads, has a great article about the wide legs, including my most recent denim purchase Seven’s Ginger jeans, which might be the most flattering pair of jeans I have ever worn. And a dark enough denim that I can wear them to work. I’m not the only fan it looks like since the article calls them a “celeb favorite”!

anyone else besides me thrilled to see wide leg pants coming back? I was never able to successfully master the skinny jeans, and not for lack of trying. Even though I am tall and have a thin frame (ie skinny) the actually skinny jeans always looked dreadful on me. They managed to make my butt look huge and out of proportion giving me the dreaded “carrot” shape. Wide leg, flare, or bell bottom jeans always look much better on my frame, for whatever reason.

So I’m supposed to be enjoying a relaxing California vacation right now, but JetBlue cancelled my flight for no reason and can’t rebook me until Saturday morning. So I look to the new style in denim to cheer me up.

080607_gapbelt1MARC by Marc Jacobs Fall looks have been posted. Start researching when you want to buy for real, and what you want to wait on until all the mass marketed store knock it off. Some of these outfits look a bit too bare for fall in NYC, but I guess I could just throw on some wooly tights.

I keep telling people: The Gap is back! Now when will people start listening? I’ve already purchased these Pin striped wide leg pants and this fun black patent leather belt for Fall 2007.

I’ve got the lovely Rainy Day Woman (seen on fashionista.com) on my brain. So pretty, and such a cute kicky weather appropriate outfit. It has alson gotten my looking into Anna Corinna bags, so yummy. (Big SALE at ShopBop by the way, worth a look, esp the shoes.)
